Over spring break, the Beloit High band took a class trip to Nashville, Tenn. The band departed on Wednesday, March 13 and arrived home early in the morning on Sunday, March 17.
While in Nashville, they toured the Grand Ole Opry House and RCA Studios, and took a haunted Nashville tour around the city on Thursday night. They also visited the Johnny Cash Museum and the Ryman Auditorium.
Band instructor Kristi Vetter says, “I always enjoy going to the Ryman Auditorium. The video at the beginning, looking at all the memories in the building, the sense of ‘awe’ when you walk into that auditorium. I grew up with many of those performers as part of my life in some way. Hearing those songs, seeing the posters and photos, brings it all back.”
They later visited the Country Music Hall of Fame and spent a few hours shopping around the downtown area. On Friday night, they attended the live Grand Ole Opry show featuring Opry member Mark Wills, the Nashville Irish Step Dancers, Catie Offerman, Kathy Mattea, Chapel Hart, the Grascals, Exile, Charles Esten and Opry member Gary Mule Deer.
The band was also able to play, recording “City of Troy” at RCA Studios and performing pep band music outside of the Grand Ole Opry. On the bus ride home, they also stopped in St. Louis and visited the Arch.
