On Friday, Sept. 27, Beloit High students Kimberlyn Kadel, Zelma Krone, Autumn Lorenz, Ally Otte, Emilie Sadler, Vanessa Strathman, Brandy Porter, Chance Ullom, Eliana Weber, Gatley Wichyoah and Sawyer Zimmer traveled to Manhattan, Kan. to participate in the seventh annual Kansas State University All-Star Marching Band. With the exception of students who signed up but could not attend, 165 high school students participated in the band and color guard.
Rehearsals began at 7 pm on Friday evening, ending at roughly 10 pm, and students needed to be at the Bill Snyder Family Stadium on Saturday morning at 5 am, six hours prior to kickoff time at 11 am. High school All-Star members performed “Bye Bye Bye” by NSYNC without the college marching band, followed by “Bad Medicine” by Bon Jovi, “Wabash Cannonball,” and “Wildcat Victory” with the college marching band.
Junior Emilie Sadler says that her favorite part of the event was, “Getting the college marching experience and watching the game.”
Mrs. Kristi Vetter says that this year was different from previous years in that, “This is the first year the Friday night rehearsal was at the new football practice field east of Bill Snyder Family Stadium… The weather was really nice for this game, as opposed to two years ago when it rained the entire time!”
Beloit High students were able to see several BHS grads who are current members of the Kansas State Band.
