The Lady Trojans took down Ellsworth and Colby on Saturday to capture a substate championship and advance to the KSHSAA 3A State Volleyball tournament held in Hutchinson this Friday and Saturday.
To get to substate, the team first competed in and won the Minneapolis regional volleyball tournament on Monday, Oct. 21 against the Minneapolis, Smoky Valley and Goodland teams. This is the first year that volleyball has had regionals; in years past it has just gone straight to substate, but KSHSAA made the decision to change the format after multiple requests. Prior to winning regionals and substate, the team took the league title for the ninth year in a row.
Several BHS volleyball players have hit career milestones this season and committed to play at colleges. Addison Budke hit her 2000 career kills mark at the Republic County tournament on Sept. 21 and has committed to play at the University of Nebraska Kearney next year. Kailyn Follis reached 1000 career digs at the Hays High tournament on Aug. 31 and has committed to play at Barton County Community College. Jaidyn Follis reached 2000 career assists during last year’s post-season play, and Sophia Thompson has committed to play at Wichita State University next year.
