The 2025 Kansas KidWind State competition was held April 5 in Salina at Tony’s Pizza Event Center. The teams competed by age groups and the competition consisted of students designing and building wind turbines that they test in a wind tunnel.
The 6th-8th grade team of Charlotte Norton, Emmery Manning, Mady Stillwell, Alison Goddard and Oakleigh Adams got 3rd place. They also broke the Beloit Junior High Hall of Fame record for Joule output in just 30 seconds!
Brylee LePon, Rilee Lundine, Tripp Stillwell and Colby Albert received 2nd in the 9th-12th grade division. This will be the third consecutive year this team has advanced to World KidWind, though they’re competing for the first time this year in the high school division.
Both teams qualified for World KidWind that will be held in Phoenix, Arizona that they will attend in May.
Every state in the USA that participates in the KidWind Challenge will bring qualifying students to World KidWind. There are teams from other countries that attend as well or participate virtually. Taiwan and Mexico attended the last World KidWind Challenge.
