Art teacher Ms. Catrina Wilson recently orchestrated a field trip for her Art and Photo Club students. Their first stop was the Manhattan Museum of Art and Light, where they viewed a diverse range of artwork. Then they visited a tattoo parlor, Black Mammoth Tattoo and Piercing. Wilson stated, “It was important to me that we also visited a professional artist so the students could have exposure to someone making a living in the field.”
The primary reason for this trip was that a senior member of the club was interested in becoming a tattoo artist, while the others were interested in visiting a museum. The tattoo parlor owner is named Cody Baker; he has been a tattoo artist for 15 years. Wilson voiced her thought process in choosing that particular parlor, “As a native of Cawker City (where I also went to school), Cody was someone that I personally knew and trusted to introduce to our students and share his experiences and knowledge.”
Wilson plans to continue student-prioritized field trips, where they may choose one museum and then an artist of the club members’ interest in various art fields.
