The Beloit High History Club takes a trip to Washington D.C. every other year. This trip is for only juniors and seniors to attend and is planned for spring break of 2024. Students are still able to sign up for the 2024 trip, but it is going to cost more in order to cover the trip.
Typically, students and chaperones leave the high school around 1 a.m. and fly out of Kansas City at 6:30 a.m. They arrive in Washington D.C. around 9 a.m. and start touring places upon arrival. The first day consists of touring the memorials and Smithsonians. The second day is spent at Arlington National Cemetary and Mount Vernon. On the third day of the trip, students go see the U.S. Capital building, usually tour the Pentagon, and visit the Holocaust Museum. On the final day of the trip, a drive through Embassy Row is taken, students get to visit the Washington National Cathedral, make a stop at the Library of Congress and the U.S. Supreme Court, and finally visit the National Archives. All of these stops and tours could potentially be moved to a different day of the trip.
Mr. Casey Seyfert is the sponsor of the History Club and a chaperone for the trip. Seyfert said that his number one goal for the trip is for students to fly on a plane, see the ocean, and ride a subway because some students have never done any of those things before.
