Beloit High Student Council is hosting a blood drive on Thursday, Nov. 15 at the school. Beloit High started hosting Red Cross blood drives in the fall of 2014, and has since hosted 18.
A total of 341 units of blood have been collected from 415 donors, 187 of which were first-time blood donors. Up to 1,023 people have received blood from BHS drives. Many alumni from the school have gone on to donate multiple times after their first at BHS, and Mrs. Betsy Reinert, a staff member at the high school, has donated blood 83 times, adding up to more than 10 gallons of blood.
The American Red Cross announced a blood supply shortage on Sept. 11. The blood supply had dropped by 25% since August. The drop in donors is a result of the natural disasters that have occurred in recent months back to back, as well as the increase in activities families have after school started up again.
