This year Beloit High has several new offerings: a senior book study, RefReps, and a student representative assisting KSHSAA (Kansas State High School Activities Association).
On Monday afternoons in Pride Time, seniors have the option to go to a book study. Principal Casey Seyfert has been reading chapters from Make Your Bed and discussing them with the seniors. It is based on a true story that shares life lessons from Navy SEAL training. It is really good for anybody to read, but especially seniors as it emphasizes: goal setting, a guide to a productive life, setting good habits, taking risks, and persevering through challenges.
BJSHS is now offering a RefReps course for high school students. In RefReps, students get trained to referee various sports and they can get good experience and pay when they work by refereeing high school games. There are 23 enrolled in the class. One student recently refereed volleyball for the first time. It’s a good opportunity for teens who want to take an active role in making this a high school job, a part-time job, or a good start to move up to the sports industry.
BJSHS student Charlie Burke is a now a member of the KSHSAA 3A Student Advisory Team. KSHSAA oversees both athletic and non-athletic competitions at the high school level. Burke represents 3A and he gives student voice to the governing body for 3A schools.
