On Wednesday, Oct. 2 during fourth hour, Holocaust survivor Mildred Schindler Janzen came to speak with Beloit High Literature and Composition 10 students, as well as community members and other students, all of which did a book study over her book Surviving Hitler, Evading Stalin: One Woman’s Remarkable Escape from Nazi Germany. Literature and Composition students prepared questions ahead of time to ask Janzen during her visit, inquiring about her experiences, her book, questions about politics today, etc. She also discussed the importance of kindness, being grateful, and keeping a positive outlook on life.
Sophomore Nalaina Underwood says that her favorite part of Janzen’s presentation was, “Interacting with her, because she was a very happy person, and gave good advice, too.”
Literature and Composition 10 teacher Mrs. Stacy Behrends says that her favorite part was, “Talking to her after it was over, she gave me a big hug and a kiss on the cheek. She’s just such a loving person.”
If you would like to check out Janzen’s book from the library, please contact Mrs. Tammy Channell. It is currently out, but she can put you on the waiting list for it.
