On Saturday, Oct. 12, Mr. Ryan Malay took a group of students to the 48th Kansas City Renaissance Festival in Bonner Springs. In total, 17 students attended, and Miss Wildfong and Miss McMains also attended as teacher chaperones.
Booths at this year’s festival included handmade items like jewelry, artwork, glass art, 3D printed items, leathercrafts, ceramics, bones, metalworks, permanent jewelry, fiber arts and clothing, food stands selling items such as chicken baskets, roasted nuts, turkey legs and kettle corn, weaponry stands including items such as swords, daggers and bows, and other stands selling items like crystals and gems. There were also interactive spots such as a caricature booth, palm readings, fortune tellers, and even an American Shaman booth featuring King Leonidas the pug and his French bulldog gargoyles, where you could pet the dogs and have your picture taken by a photographer.
There were multiple shows and events throughout the day, including musicians, skits, jousting and jesters. This year, the theme for the weekend was Spooky Knights, so most booths had bowls of Halloween candies and shows and events revolved around the theme, including scarecrow decorating, witch hat ring toss, pumpkin games, Quidditch, and a death parade.
