On Friday, Sept. 22, 18 Beloit High students traveled to Manhattan to participate in the 6th K-State All-Star Marching Band and play for the K-State vs. Florida game on Saturday. To be accepted into the band, they had to be nominated by their band director, Mrs. Kristi Vetter, and chosen to be a part of the band.
The students practiced from 7-10 p.m. on Friday evening. The next afternoon they were at Bill Snyder Family Stadium at 1:30 to practice with the college band as well. They went into the stands at 5:30 that evening to get ready for the game. The band played for the halftime show and sat behind the K-State band in the stands. Trumpet player Emry Hardin stated, “The atmosphere is very exciting and it’s an amazing experience.”
This was an opportunity for the band members to participate in and experience the atmosphere of college band. Sophomore Zelma Krone says, “It is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that I think every band member should participate in.”
