On Wednesday, Sept. 27, the eighth grade class went on a field trip. They toured the Beloit Solar Farm to learn how it works, how much electricity it provides to the city, and how that electricity is transported to our homes.

In class, they have been learning about solar energy and solar panels, then built solar cars out of legos to race against each other. They used engineering skills to gear their cars, create a solid, sturdy base, attach solar panels, hook up a generator, and perfect the tires and frames to make their cars as fast as possible.

Students were able to look at the solar panels outside of the high school and have been using an online data analytics system from Trane Technologies to learn how the panels work and how much energy they provide to the school.
