On Feb. 12, Millapalooza announced that they were looking for a new event logo for Millapalooza 2024. A competition was open to high school students in the Beloit area. The deadline was set for March 1 and a few guidelines for the project were provided: the logo must include a set color palette that was provided; it must include the words Millapalooza, Mill Street, 2024 and Beloit; and the project must invoke a “summer festival” emotion. On March 8, Millapalooza announced that they had received more than 20 submissions, thanking participants, and that a winner had been selected that was to be announced on a later date. Later, on March 22, they announced the winner: Saige Heiman. Heiman was awarded a $100 Sonic gift card, a free t-shirt and designer credit for her logo.
Heiman made the logo in her graphic design class.
“I’m in Graphic Design 1. (Mrs.) Burke had both Graphic Design 1 and 2 enter the contest. I made my first design and sent it to Burke, but she wanted us all to make a second design. I didn’t want to make a second design at the time, but I did. I ended up liking my second design in the long-run, so I submitted it as my final design in the contest.”
