Two Beloit High students, senior Morgan Weston and sophomore Vanessa Strathman, advanced to the State Kansas Scholastic Press Association contest after placing at KSPA Regionals. Weston advanced in infographic design and Strathman placed in the news writing and feature writing categories.
In KSPA Regionals, students from 84 schools competed in 26 categories in 11 different classifications organized by geography and school size. More than 1,000 entries from around the state were submitted and judged.
“Journalism students learn so many vital skills when they create entries for our KSPA contest,” KSPA executive director Eric Thomas said. “Whether they are creating designs, photos, stories, headlines or illustrations, these students are learning by doing. We hope that awarding their great work and getting expert feedback will build those skills further.”
