Ms. Katie Wendell is the new Beloit Jr/Sr High School nurse. She started on Wednesday, Jan. 3. Wendell has two kids who attend Beloit schools: Jacob, an eighth grader, and Presley, a fifth grader. She also has two adult sons. Wendell grew up and went to school here in Beloit and graduated in 1997. She enjoys camping, going to the lake and the mountains, hiking, gardening and reading. “I love all animals… except for snakes.”
After graduation, Wendell attended Fort Hays State University to major in broadcast journalism, but changed majors to get her nursing degree. She has been in nursing for 20 years, working both in surgery and as a hospice nurse. Before nursing, she worked in radio, starting in high school at KVSV and later taking multiple jobs in news reporting, advertising, and on-air shows while living in Hays, Kan. This is her first job as a school nurse. Wendell wanted to become a nurse because, “I wanted to make a difference in the lives of others and help them with their health and wellness.”
“I’m just really excited to be a school nurse and to be around kids. I want everyone to know that I’m always here and my door is always open. This is a safe place to come and talk. I’m excited to educate young people on their health and wellness and what they can do to help themselves.”
