The yearbook staff and co-editors Allie Bourbon, Ellie Olson and Brandy Porter have been working hard on the yearbook. Since the April 15 deadline for ordering a yearbook will be here before we know it, we caught up with Bourbon to get her thoughts on being a yearbook co-editor.
Bourbon assumed her leadership role with a passion for design and a desire to support her fellow team members. Inspired by the opportunity to help create the layout and overall look of the book, Bourbon also saw the position as a chance to mentor others. “I wanted to help the rest of the staff and teach them about how we do the yearbook,” she said.
Her vision for the year is centered on teamwork and creating something more than themselves. She loves working with her staff and friends to create the yearbook, and she hopes that the finished product becomes a lasting memory for students and staff to enjoy for a lifetime.
Bourbon is especially excited to see the book come together from start to finish. For her, watching the progress, from initial design ideas to the final printed pages, is one of the most rewarding parts of the experience.
When it comes to leadership, Bourbon values being approachable above all. “I want other students and my peers to reach out to me for questions,” she said. “I want to establish a strong bond with the yearbook staff.”
Bourbon is known for her friendly attitude and willingness to listen; she hopes to create an environment where every team member feels supported. To Bourbon, the yearbook is about more than just photography and design. “It takes a lot of hard work and dedication,” she said. “We make lots of friendships, learn a lot of life lessons and skills, and most importantly, we have fun!”
