Throughout the school week of March 30 through April 3, a few HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) workers appeared around the school with the goal of making the new heaters/air conditioners talk to the fire alarm system.
The school’s HVAC systems on the roof are at their “end of life.” Most of the units are more than 25 years old and due for replacement. They are replacing a few each year over the coming years to make sure that we have heat and air when needed. Due to this, they had two new HVAC units put in over spring break and will have two more installed this summer. Because of the updated units, they had to update the school’s fire alarm system, so the two systems worked together.
