Garry Lowry and Christy Hammer are the first two candidates who have been interviewed for the open superintendent position at USD 273-Beloit. Candidates were selected for interviews based on their fit with desired characteristics that were developed with input from focus groups and an online community survey utilized during the search process.

Lowry has more than 18 years of experience in schools, including teaching, administration, sports, and leadership. He is currently an assistant principal at Beloit Elementary, where he works on improving instruction, school safety, staff development, and fostering a positive school environment. Lowry believes in teamwork, making decisions based on data, and building strong relationships with students, families, staff, and the community. He has advanced degrees in education and leadership, is working toward a district-level license, and has additional leadership experience from sports administration and military service. Lowry is dedicated to USD 273, both in his job and personally, and focuses on engaging with the community, responsible budgeting, and ongoing improvement.

Hammer has more than 29 years of experience in classroom instruction, building leadership, and district administration, with a consistent commitment to integrity, shared vision, and student achievement. Hammer is the current superintendent of a K–12 district, focusing on collaboration, transparency, and strategic planning for continuous improvement. She oversees staff and students, manages the budget, and works with the board of education to align with community priorities. Previously, she served as principal for grades 6–12, and also spent more than two decades teaching high school science and coaching, achieving strong academic results and leading successful athletic programs. Hammer is committed to partnering with the board and the USD 273 community to enhance a student-centered, community-focused educational approach.
