In late February, Daxton Elam placed 4th in the forensics tournament at Abilene High School, qualifying him for state forensics. Elam qualified in impromptu speaking, which is when the student gets assigned a topic and is given five minutes to create a speech about that topic.
Elam will compete in the state tournament in Wichita on May 2. Other forensics students still have opportunities to earn a state qualification before the regular season ends. Any student in forensics can qualify for state at any tournament as long as they place high enough.
