JAG-K officers Emilie Sadler, parliamentarian; Lila Andreasen, historian; and Kyla Drake; secretary, recently went to Topeka for JAG-K Day at the Capitol. They met with state legislators, watched and learned what the Senate and House meetings are voting on, then toured the dome, and the rest of the Capitol.

“It was super fun, and I definitely recommend taking every opportunity to have fun experiences,” Drake stated. The trip is a required trip set by the state office of JAG-K.

“Walking into the Capitol for JAG-K Day, I expected to feel small in such a big place, but instead I felt proud. From standing beneath the dome to meeting senators I once put on a pedestal, I realized that leadership is made up of real people—and that students like us truly belong in those rooms,” Andreasen said.

Mrs. Tice, the JAG-K teacher, said, “It was a fantastic day with some officers. They all had a positive attitude and were ready to learn about government at our state Capitol. It was a joy to climb up the stairs to the top with the three of them, attend the Senate and House meetings, and meet one senator and two House representatives face to face. The day was awesome!”
